Lifewide Education was founded by Professor Norman Jackson in August 2011 for the purpose of creating and supporting a community of people who share the value of promoting and supporting a lifewide perspective on learning, personal development and education. The social enterprise is supported by a small dedicated team of volunteers who believe in the value of a lifewide approach to learning in education and in lifelong learning for adults.

Our aim is to contribute to the development of people by promoting the concept of lifewide learning in education and lifelong learning and providing encouragement and practical help to individuals and organisations who want to adopt, adapt and implement the idea.
A more complete education
Our vision for a more complete education is captured in the words of Eduard Lindeman 'the whole of life is learning therefore education can have no ending.' A more complete education unites and integrates formal education with learners' own attempts to develop themselves through their lifewide experiences. People are the designers of their own lives in which formal education is but one part of a complex set of experiences all of which contribute to the development of a person. We also believe that lifewide learning is a lifelong activity and our success and wellbeing is largely due to our ability to learn and develop in all the domains of our life.
Serving the needs and interests of our communities
We are a social not for profit enterprise working for and with the communities of practitioners who care about students' development in a holistic, whole of life sense. Our primary interests are to develop and apply the idea of lifewide learning inside and outside formal education. With our community we grow and curate knowledge that is relevant to understanding of the concept and practice of lifewide learning and education. The products of this collaborative enterprise are made available through our Lifewide Magazine and e-books which we make freely available through Creative Commons licences.
We support individual practitioners, educational institutions and other organisations that wish to promote a lifewide approach to learning, personal development and education. We have a particular interest in Higher Education as this is the origin of our ideas and practices. We make contributions to professional development programmes and learning and teaching conferences and offer a benchmarking service to enable organisations to compare their practices and outcomes.
